Walter Otto Krumbiegel;s father was Otto Emil Krumbiegel (1884 - 1966), born in Germany and his mother was Elsie Olga Gertrude Hansel (1881 - 1963, also born in Germany. He had sibling Harry (1918 - 2005). Walter arrived in the United States on September 25, 1926, when he was about 16 years old. When he was 20, Walter was living in Hillside, New Jersey on Hurden Street with his parents, Otto, 46, and Ella, 44, and his brother Harry, who was 12. Harry was the only one in the household who had been born in the United States (New York). Dad Otto was a "knotter" in a factory. When Walter filled out his World War II draft card in 1940, he was 30 and stilling living on Hurden Street in New Jersey. His father was at the same address and Walter's next of kin. Walter was working tor the Board of Education in Hillside New Jersey. He was 5 feet 9 inches tall, weighed 155 pounds, had blue eyes and brown hair, with a "light" complexion. He wore glasses. When he enlisted in 1942, he said that he had 4 years of college, was a teacher in secondary school, and was a resident of Union, New Jersey. Walter then married Arlene Louise Althenn (1918 - 1994) in New Jersey in 1943. There is no record of them having had children. Walter was an Army veteran of World War II. In the 1966 yearbook of Hillside High School, Walter was the Principal.

I'm a Founder of AncientFaces and support the community answering questions & helping members make connections to the past (thus my official title of Founder & Content and Community Support ). For me, it's been a labor of love for over 20 years. I truly believe with all of my heart that everyone should be remembered for generations to come. I am 2nd generation San Jose and have seen a lot of changes in the area while growing up. We used to be known as the "Valley of Heart's Delight" (because the Valley was covered with orchards and there were many canneries to process the food grown here, which shipped all over the US) - now we have adopted the nickname "Capital of Silicon Valley" and Apple, Ebay, Adobe, Netflix, Facebook, and many more tech companies are within a few miles of my current home in San Jose (including AncientFaces). From a small town of 25,000, we have grown to 1 million plus. And when you add in all of the communities surrounding us (for instance, Saratoga, where I attended high school, living a block from our previous Mayor), we are truly one of the big cities in the US.
