Obituary of William R Holbrook
Mr. William R. Holbrook, Sr. age 90 a resident of Bartow passed away Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at Highlands Lake Center in Lakeland. Mr. Holbrook was born September 26, 1925 in Olive Hill, Kentucky to John and Martha (Tackett) Holbrook. He was a Polk County resident since 1956 coming from KY. He received his Bachelor's Degree from the University of Kentucky and also attended Morehead State College both in KY. William was a United States Navy Veteran serving during WWII. He retired after 30 years as the Agricultural Teacher at Auburndale High School where they named a building after him (Holbrook & Russell Ag Building). He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling with his wife and watching westerns. William loved to woodwork and had built a log cabin which is still standing today. William had a sense of humor and was always making people laugh. He was preceded in death by his parents; 1st wife - Dora; son - William R. Holbrook, Jr.; brother - Jack Holbrook and sister - Betty Robbins. William is survived by his loving family; Wife of 20 Years: Barbara Holbrook of Bartow, Son: Jeff Holbrook of Mulberry, Daughter: Micha Phipps of Auburndale, 2 Stepsons: Kelly (Pauline) Hofeditz of Lake Alfred, David Hofeditz of NYC, 4 Stepdaughters: Bonnie Kellams of St. Petersburg, Donna Enzor of Auburndale, Jane (Dan) Hudson of Bartow, Brenda Padilla of MI.
2 Sisters: Mary (Ron) Eltzroth of IN., JoAnn (Jimmy) Rose of KY., 11 Grandchildren, 9 Great Grandchildren.

I'm a Christian, and I'm a daughter of Allan B. Holbrook, now in heaven. My married name is Debby Stevens.
My parents, Allan and Marie, were devout Christians, and had 10 children. They were both school teachers, but Mom quit teaching at public school after marriage. But both Mom and Dad home-schooled us all - starting when I was in 1st grade - that's when they came to the decision to home-school us. Dad earned an income through being an English teacher here in Traverse City, for man years. Dad started some Bible meetings that took place in the homes of friends of ours and in our own. He was the main teacher in it, and it was in a discoursing style - he would talk about spiritual things with the fathers of the families, each time, and all the children of the families would sit and listen to it all.
