Taken by Gilbert de Ghent's 3rd son Walter de Lindsey, for his fathers holding in the old Kingdom of Lindessia or Lindsey in Lincolnshire. Gilbert a Companion of William of Normandy. Family of Flemish Counts. Walter was on the Council of David I of Scotland, spelling 'ay" in Scots. Gilbert and his 4 brothers in service of William. They were 1st cousins to his Flemish wife. We now know that many of the knights that David I brought to Scotland were Flemish. Lot of them settled in southeast Scotland . Walters younger brother was Erskine founder of that Clan.
