My grandmother was Dorothea (Dora) Margaret Elisabeth HARGENS GOEBEL STEGELMEIER. The inscription on the back states that it was her aunt, the sister of her mother & the suname was misspelled as PERRINE. My grandmother's mother was Bertha Margaretha Catharina PRIEN HARGENS. Her sister, the bride, was Antje Marie Caroline PRIEN. I found that she was a domestic servant in Hamburg, Germany in the late 1870's. She was born in Heide, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany on 11 Nov 1855 and she was christened on 25 Dec 1855.
The photo was a copy of the original. Unfortunately, Grandmother did not record the details on the back of the photo. There is no record of her marriage in the parish registers of the Lutheran Church in Heide. Since she is not my direct ancestor, I cannot request a copy of her marriage from the Civil Registrar's Office in Hamburg, if that is where she was married. I have been searching the Passport Applications for Hamburg and the Hamburg Passenger Lists, but so far I have not been able to find her under her maiden name. Also, I need to research the Abmeldung and Anmeldung records for Hamburg (Germans registered when they left a city or residence and they registered upon arrival in a new city or when they moved to a new residence within a city). As for the photo, the background in the photo seems different and the stool on which the groom is sitting looks unusual. I am trying to give this photo, as much exposure on the Internet, as I can in hopes that someone will recognize them, as their ancestors and contact me. I am hoping that she had children, so that I do not hit a brick wall with this research. Not knowing more about the groom is driving me crazy. Also, I would like to include more about her in our family history that we want to publish someday.
