Jacqueline Robin Read
Jacqueline (Jackie) was raised in British Columbia, Canada. She had 4 half brothers and 2 half sisters. Her father was Orville Lee McDonald born in 1926 in Missoula, Montanna. Her mother was Reta Ellen Hickey born in 1928 in Saskatchewan, Canada. She had a troubled childhood. She was raised by her mother and only saw her father occasionally throughout her childhood years. Jackie had 3 children, Travis McDonald, Chad McDonald and Joshua Dragos. The children had different fathers. Jackie has no children with the man she had once married, John Lefurgey Read. She divorced John Read in the 1990's. Jackie obtained a Bachelor of Social Work degree with a child welfare specialization in British Columbia. She worked as a Child Protection Social Worker for the majority of her career. She was awarded a letter of recognition for her work in northern British Columbia. While she was in northern British Columbia her 12 year old son, Joshua Dragos died tragically from acute aspiration. Both Jackie and her son were adopted into the Tahltan First Nation by elder, Margery Loverin in Dease lake, British Columbia. Joshua's given native tradtional name was Ch'ioyne Cho (meaning big wolf) and Jackie was named Ch'ioyne de'kla (meaning white wolf). Jackie was raised being told she was part American Native American (cherokee). Her Aunt June told Jackie that her father's family when living in Saskatchewan were known as the half breed kids. Jackie has a great love for the mountains and lakes. She regularly explores the mountains on her ATV with her partner and friends. Jackie took a serious interest in genealogy after her son Joshua died. She also had a lack of identity and a yearning to learn her roots and know where she came from. Jackie is a descendant of the Phelps of New England, USA. Her 3rd great grandfather was Colonel Darius Phelps (1772) who was a descendant of William Phelps (c. 1599 – July 14, 1672). William Phelps a Puritan Englishman who immigrated in 1630 to the American Colonies. He was one of the founders of both Dorchester, Massachusetts and Windsor, Connecticut, foreman of the first grand jury in New England, served most of his life in early colonial government, and played a key role in establishing the first democratic town government in the American colonies. Noted historian Henry Reed Stiles said Phelps "was one of the most prominent and highly respected men in the colony." Williams immigration to New England: King Charles I of England had succeeded his father King James I of England in 1625, and continued his father's strong opposition to the Puritan movement, who opposed many of the Anglican Church's doctrines as retaining too much of its Roman Catholic roots. After the Puritans assumed control of Parliament, they began to pose a serious threat to the King's authority. In January 1629, in a move to neutralize his opponents, Charles dissolved Parliament entirely. The religious and political climate became so difficult for Puritans that many began to make arrangements to leave the country. William Phelps was among them. Jackie never had any religious affiliations. She believed that no matter what religion any person was if they tried to treat everyone fairly and always tried to improve after their mistakes then that was personal and spiritual growth.
