Nathaniel Garland Rice
Nathaniel Garland Rice
Nathaniel Garland Rice was born in Georgia Jan 1832. His parents were Charles H. Rice & Asenath Leverett, who married in Wilkes County, Georgia, 5 Jan 1828.

Nathaniel Garland Rice served Georgia as 5th Sergeant, Company F, 32nd Regiment Georgia Infantry, Confederate States of America. His company was known as the "Jeff Davis Guards." The only three sons of his family joined the CSA military immediately after the outbreak of the War, and the youngest died after only serving a few months. In a sense, "Pa," as his children called him, never stopped fighting the War, and resented those Southerners who had not contributed to the effort of the CSA. As an old, old man he would stand and emotionally speak of the lost cause of the South, waving his cane for emphasis.

Nathaniel and Henrietta Ley married in Randolph County, Georgia, 15 Oct 1857. They left heavily damamged Georgia after the War and spent time raising a family in Limestone Couty, Alabama. After the 1880 census, they moved to Kaufman County, Texas. Henrietta died sometime before 1900. Nathaniel Garland Rice died 24 Jan 1922 is buried in Graham Point Cemetery, Hunt County, Texas.

Nathaniel & Henrietta (Ley) Rice are my great grandparents.

2020 marks 20 years since the inception of AncientFaces. We are the same team who began this community so long ago. Over the years it feels, at least to us, that our family has expanded to include so many. Thank you!
