Bella (Citron) Stiller
Although Bella stated in some records that she was born in Poland, on the 1930 Federal Census she said that she had been born in Russia and that both of her parents were born in Russia. On her Federal Naturalization Records, Bella said that she had entered the United States on September 14th, 1920. Bella Citron married William Stiller (1896 - 1999) on May 27th, 1925 in Manhattan, New York. They had children Jerry Stiller (1927 - 2020), a comedian and actor, and father of actor https://www.ancientfaces.com/person/ben-stiller-birth-1965-united-states/192727869; Arnold (1929 - 2017); and Maxine Stiller (1945 - 2019). When Bella was 35 years old, on June 8th, 1937, she became a naturalized citizen of the United States in the District Court in Brooklyn, New York. Bella died at the age of 52 in Manhattan, New York. She is buried in Montefiore Cemetery in Springfield Gardens, Queens County, New York.
William Stiller was born to Samuel Stiller (1872-1956) and Annie Teitel (1875-1945) in New York. He had siblings Sarah (1900-1997), Blanche (1901-1992), Harry (1902-1993), Isidore (1903-2003), Simon (b. 1906), Bessie (1908-1957), Mary (1910-1980), Nettie (1911-2006), and Ray Helen (b. 1913) William married Bella Cytrinbaum (1902 - 1954) and they had children Gerald "Jerry"', Arnold, and Dorine. Bella filed for naturalization, saying she was born in Poland, on January 1, 1931. In the 1940 federal census, William was 40 and living in New York with wife Bella (38) and children Gerald (12), Arnold (10) and Dorine (9). William said that he was a "busman" for a transportation company. All three children were in school. On his World War II draft card, dated February 16, 1942, William was living in New York City on Jackson Street and was 41 years old. His next of kin was his wife, Bella, and he was working for the New York City Omnibus in New York. William was 5 feet 3 inches tall, weighed 145 pounds, and had gray eyes and brown hair. Hi complexion was "light" and he had a scar on the right side of his throat. William spent his entire life in New York, and worked as a bus driver. He was the father of the famous American comedian Jerry Stiller, and the grandfather of American comedian and actor Ben Stiller. He died at 102 years old. His son Jerry Stiller described him as "a fun-loving guy" who until recently "would entertain at senior citizen homes with his third wife Marsha". See William Stiller: Obituary for additional details.
