Tom and Peter became friends when they were teenagers. They refused to see color in a world full of hate and they to this very day will always be the best friends anyone could ever want.
Peter James Kelly Sr
Peter was a very loving man. He was married for 35 years and had 2 children. He worked for the City of Newport burning garbage at the incinerator then moved on to cutting grass, plowing the streets of snow, street sweeping etc until he ended his career as a Water Plant Treatment Operator. Peter had muscular dystrophy and had to retire due to his disability. Later he developed dementia. Peter was a pacifist and did not believe in fighting with anyone ever. He would always say if your right do not back down and he meant it. He walked in peace protests along side of Martin Luther King Jr. Not just physically in the March but he was along side of Martin Luther King Jr. Peter loved is Bluegrass and Folk music. He became friends with many many performers. Until his passing he was in touch with Allison Krauss whom he watched grow up on stage. When Peter passed, he listened to Your Long Journey by Allison and Robert Plant so he would feel at ease. Peter loved to travel. He would go every year to visit his friend Doc Watson and Merle Haggard in the Carolina's just to be in the mountains. Peter would move mountains for people if need be but at the same time he would be the mountain you would not try to climb. Peter loved sitting by the water on a bench at Battery Park in Newport and talk with his friends. Nothing in the world was as great as driving by Dunkin Donuts and going in to just sit and talk with him. He would always start with a Hello there" Peter may not have had a college degree but his intelligence was definitely higher then some of the people with certified education. Peter was raised by his mother and father and lived with his 3 cousins so there was the4 boys. Peters Mom Edie would take turn taking care of the boys with her sister Evangeline. Peter was my father. I miss him so much every day but I know he is with his mother and father and they are watching us, we all see the signs and feel their presence. We are armed by the best guardian angels ever, the Scottish angels from above
