Joseph Howard Logsdon was born on April 2, 1918 in Harrisburg, Saline, Illinois, USA to parents John Luther Logsdon (1888-1950) and Martha Capehart (1888-1955). He had siblings John Lawrence Logsdon (1909-1987), Ruby Helen Logsdon (1912-1921), Evanelle Logsdon (1921-1978), Mary Lou Logsdon (1928-1928), and Paul Delwyn Logsdon (1932-1997). At the time of his enlistment on October 16, 1940, in Illinois he was 22 years old and the head of his household. He was employed by Ford Brick and Tile Co. On October 15, 1941, Joseph enlisted in the military in Chicago, Illinois. He joined the Branch Immaterial - Warrant Officers, USA, component under the Selectees (Enlisted Men) category. Joseph's military service lasted until May 19, 1945, when he received an honorable discharge.
