Timothy Richard Quine was adopted by child star, director, actor, and singer Richard Harding Quine (1920-1989) and Suzanne 'Susan' Peters Carnahan (1921 -1952), an actress. They adopted Timothy in 1946, when he was 10 days old. Susan Peters was an actress who, in 1948, became paralyzed after a hunting accident. That same year Richard and Susan divorced. A newspaper at the time described Susan as facing a "courageous struggle against the handicap of paralysis". She died at the age of 31, officially due to kidney failure.
