Joseph Putz
Family, friend, or fan, this family history biography is for you to remember Joseph Putz.
Catherine (Putz) Selinger
Catherine Putz Selinger was born to Joseph Putz and Barbara Harsch and had siblings Joseph, Jack, Helen, and Frances. When she was 16, her family lived on a farm in Buel, Michigan, where her father was a farmer. At 21, Catherine became a naturalized citizen of the United States, standing at 5 feet one inch with brown hair and blue eyes. On May 7, 1927, Catherine married John Selinger in Croswell, Michigan. Both Catherine and John were born in Austria-Hungary and had a daughter named Dorothy. John worked as a farmer until his retirement, after which they lived with their daughter on a farm in Riley, Michigan. Catherine was a devout Catholic and was a member of All Saints Catholic Church as well as the Altar Society.
Margaret Lieblang
Married to Joseph Lieblang. They had four children: Joseph Jr., Charles, John, and Catherine (Champion). John Lieblang married Helen Putz (daughter of Barbara and Joseph Putz).
Catherine Selinger
Catherine is the oldest child of Joseph and Barbara Putz. She was born in Austria Hungary and came to America in 1907 aboard the August Victoria along with her mother and brother, Joseph. Her father came to America in 1905. She worked as a cook to the Eckert family in Detroit during the 1920's. She married John Selinger 05-07-1927. They had one daughter, Dorothy Selinger (Moskovis). She and John had several different farms in Memphis, MI.
Helen Lieblang
Helen was the fourth child born to Barbara and Joseph Putz. Her older siblings were Catherine, Joseph, and Jack. Francis was her younger sister. Helen grew up helping her father on the family farm in Croswell, MI. She graduated the 8th Grade and went to live with her sister, Catherine, in Detroit to attend Munger Intermediate School where she won a prize for her artwork. She left school before graduating because her parents needed help on the farm. She married John Lieblang on 1-12-1933. They had three children: Mary Ellen (Aubel, Caruso), Donald J., and Eleanor (Meyer). She worked for Singer Sewing Company for many years as a saleswoman and was an accomplished seamstress. She also worked making shells in one of the factories during WW II. Helen enjoyed oil painting and china painting.
Barbara Putz
Married to Joseph Putz in Austria Hungary. Her mother's name is Margaret Hearsch. She had five children: Catherine (Selinger), Joseph, Jack, Helen (Lieblang), and Frances (Baranowski). She came over on the August Victoria in 1907 with her children Catherine and Joseph to meet up with her husband, Joseph who came to America in 1905. The family contracted sugar beets on a farm near Caro, MI where Jack and Helen were born. They then moved to a large farm in Croswell, MI near Wildcat and Roach Roads. Francis was born there. They then moved to Memphis, MI where they had a farm on Eagling Road.
