George D. Allesee Sr.
George Allesee was born in Clinton Iowa in 1898 to Danish Immigrants. He grew up in a Danish Lutheran Church. George was the 11th of 12 children. George was very active in sports. He played Basketball, Baseball, Football, and Volleyball at his high school in Clinton. George was drafted by the Chicago White Sox and played in the White Sox minor leagues. George attended YMCA College in Chicago Illinois. George married Florence Sargenson in East Moline Illinois in 1919 and shortly after moved to Michigan City Indiana. He and his wife attended a Methodist Church in Michigan City. In the early 1920s George and his wife moved to La Porte Indiana and became very active in the La Porte First Baptist Church. George over the years was a Sunday School Teacher and Superintendent. George was the Physical Director at the La Porte YMCA. He was also the Athletic Director at Kingsbury Ordnance Plant. George was the voice of La Porte High School athletics on the radio WLOI and gave the Slicers the name Slicers after the US Slicing Company in La Porte. He broadcasted the games for over 40 years. George had 5 children and many grandchildren. He was founder and Chairman of both the La Porte Old Timers Baseball Association and La Porte Baseball Hall of Fame. He coached many Volleyball, Baseball, and Basketball teams at the YMCA that competed for State Championships. He died in 1968 and in 1973 the city of La Porte donated a park in his honor (Allesee Park)
