Joyce Ann Carnegie was an inspector with the Orange Police Department in New Jersey. She served as a dedicated officer for four years. Tragically, she lost her life in the line of duty. Here are some details about her: Age: 38 Tour of Service: 4 years Badge Number: 48 Incident Details: On April 8, 1999, Inspector Carnegie stopped an armed robbery suspect for questioning near the intersection of North Day Street and Freeway Drive West. The suspect had just committed two muggings in the area minutes before. As she approached him, he drew his weapon and shot her before she could react. Despite wearing a vest, she was shot in the head and abdomen. A federal agent discovered her next to her patrol car. The suspect, a 25-year-old, pleaded guilty to murder and was sentenced to life in prison without parole. Inspector Carnegie is the first female officer to be killed in the line of duty in Essex County, New Jersey, and the second in the state. She is survived by her mother.

Eunice Peterson Obituary Eunice Louise Porter Peterson April 4, 1942 - Nov. 23, 2020 Eunice Louise Porter Peterson was the daughter of the late Choice Hornsby and John Porter Jr. She was raised by Choice and her stepfather, the late Robert Wiggins. On Sept 30, 1961, she married Charles W. Peterson. Although divorced, they remained friends along with her entire Peterson family. She was a longtime companion of Leroy Swearingen until his death in April 2020. Eunice gave her life to Christ at an early age and had a number of church affiliations her entire life. She held a variety of positions. She sang as a background singer for many years for Dionne Warwick and her last position was that of senior artist assistant at the New Jersey PAC. Eunice was also a member of the Jubilation Choir. She held the last two positions until her illness forced her to retirement. Eunice leaves to mourn her passing a beloved son, Charles Peterson, Jr. (Sheena Dougher); grandchildren, Rachael Peterson Alston, Charles III, Sydney and Aubriana Peterson, and three great-grandchildren. She also leaves Toni Withers, who she semi-adopted as a teenager and a host of friends. Interment at Rosedale Cemetery, Orange Rd., Montclair, N.J., with a memorial service will be held at a later date.
