His grave inscription says “our loss,his eternal gain” He was in the sunken road near Beaumont- hamel on 1st July 1916 at the start of the battle of the Somme .his battalion was by a man named marlin who wrote a book about filming in the war and part is about the sunken road and videos of this were recently used in the documentary “they shall not grow old “. He was 19 yrs old when he died which is very young .
