Henry Clay Glasspoole
Henry Clay Glasspoole in his Civil War Uniform. Son of Thomas William Glasspoole and Catharine (Cook) Glasspoole. Served in the 5th Wisconsin Infantry, Companies K and A. Family rumor is that he was present when General Lee signed the Letter of Surrender. We do not know whether he was in the room with General Lee or acted as a guard outside of the room; only that he was present. I recently inherited a box of things that belonged to my great grandfather, Wendell Glasspoole, and in the box was a copy of the "Conditions of the Surrender" written by Robert E. Lee. The paper it is copied on is old and not of the average size, but is definitely a photo copy of some sort.
