2020 marks 20 years since the inception of AncientFaces. We are the same team who began this community so long ago. Over the years it feels, at least to us, that our family has expanded to include so many. Thank you!

![Joseph Schmalhorst](https://www.ancientfaces.com/images/site/shared/bio-avatar-male-small.png)
I was Colonel Schmalhorst's driver when he was Battallion Commander of the 6th Battalion of the 31st Infrantry in Fort Lewis, Washington, and in South Viet Nam in 1967 and 68. Although I was just a private, the Colonel always treated me with great respect. Since I was his driver, we spent a great deal of time together and we became good friends. He and I and Sargeantmajor Creasy slept in the same tent in basecamps in the Mekong Delta. We were kind of like a little family of sorts. I will always remember him.
