My bio: Rick Sheridan is a retired educator. He worked as an assistant professor of communication at Wilberforce University in Ohio. Rick taught journalism and business courses and managed the student newspaper. Rick has also taught at Stanford University and California State University, Chico. He has a master’s in theater and film, along with a doctorate in communications. Rick still works part-time as a journalist. The Dayton Daily News has published over 40 of his columns. The topics have included: business, sports, education, and humor. His feature articles have also been published by the Chicago Sun-Times, Tampa Bay, Winston-Salem Journal, New Orleans Times-Picayune, Pikes Peak Senior News etc.
My father’s side of the family are of Irish and German descent. Most of them were Quakers who migrated from North Carolina to Ohio, Indiana, Iowa and Kansas. Our most famous relative is Levi Coffin who was a leader in the Underground Railroad during the Civil War era. Family names: Lisor, Wright, Rayburn, Place, Tout, Osborn, Ridgway, Ruggles, Dryden, Nevitt. My mother is from Britain. Family names include Porter, Jermyn, etc.
