Jimmy and I were best friends, living across the same alley from each other, from first grade thru 7th grade (after which my family relocated to Montana). We did all that kids do in the 50s: Cowboys & Indians, sandlot baseball and football, fort-building, military commando raids, skiing/skating/sledding, biking, floating makeshift rafts out of driftwood down at Chequamegon Bay (pretending to be Tom Sawyer), etc.
My younger brother and I used to get so mad when Mavis, Jimmy's mother, would call him in during our playtime to practice on his accordion--at least 2 hrs./day! (I later realized how that discipline paid off, e.g., Ted Mack Amateur hour).
Our family returned to Ashland for a visit in the early 60s, and I had an opportunity to visit Jimmy at his part-time job at National Foods. We'd arranged to meet after his workday was finished, but Dad insisted we had to get
back on the road to Montana. I was later informed that Mavis said that Jimmy was devastated that we didn't get a chance to reflect on old times (me included!).
Later information gave me the impression that Jimmy had married soon after graduation, holding down 2 jobs to support his new family; however, there appears to be no public records of Jimmy ever marrying.

James B Mccauley of 1109 MacArthur Avenue, in Ashland, Ashland County, WI United States(?) was born on January 12, 1946 in Mason, Bayfield County to Bud McCauley and Mavis McCauley. He had siblings Alice McCauley and Shirley McCauley. James Mccauley died at age 21 years old on March 16, 1967, and was buried at Mason Cemetery in Mason.
