Rev. Henry B. Goodwin
This is my great great great grandfather, Rev. Henry B Goodwin.He was born in Virginia in about 1804, married Jane Billups in Cabell county, West Virginia on 6/27/1833. By 1836 they had moved to Louisa, Lawrence county, Kentucky. He is in the 1840 Lawrence county census, but by the 1850 Lawrence county, Ky ,Jane is the head of household and in the 1860 Lawrence county, Ky census, Jane is listed as a widow.They had three children, Francis Ann Goodwin Williams, Charles A Goodwin, and Harrison Goodwin.
Harrison has dissappeared after the 1870 Lawrence county Ky census. Who are Rev. Henry B Goodwin's parents?? Why did he die so young?? Where was he buried?? this article mentions him, what happened to him?? This is the article from Louisa Ky a book "History of Lawrence County," published in 1991. This is one of those books where anybody and everybody writes little articles about their families. There are also historical sketches of churches, schools, etc.
In the little article called "Early Methodists in Louisa," there is an interesting entry.
".....From 1836 to 1837, the Louisa Circuit was established and Rev. Robert Y. McReynolds was the appointed circuit rider. During this time period, the church property was deeded to the official circuit rider for that time. On May 10, 1842, a deed was issued from Rev. Henry B. Goodwin to Rev. Stephen A. Rathburn designating that Rev. Rathburn and his successors (i.e., the circuit preachers) be conveyed the Methodist Episcopal Church, one house, known as the church, or meeting house, upon the south part of the public square......"
