He married Julia Gleeson Mills in 1865, and had children Kenneth Gordon Mills, Patrick Mills, Margaret Mills, Bridget Mills Hawkins, Ellen "Nellie" Mills, John Francis Mills, Michael Mills, William Mills, Ann Cecelia Mills, Mary Elizabeth Mills, George Thomas Mills, James Patrick Mills, Agnes Mills, Catherine Mary (Mills) Murphy, Elizabeth Agnes Mills, Patrick Joseph Mills, Joseph Henry Francis Mills, and Frederick John Mills. John Mills died at age 82 years old on October 19, 1920 in Gordon, Moorabool Shire County, VIC Australia.
