I'm a retire police officer, and one of my many hobbies is researching my family tree which I have been doing since 1989 ever since I received our family tree book. The book only went back 7 generations, but I have been able to go back further.
I'm 35% Irish from my mother's side, 33% Eastern European & Russian on my dad's side,
18% Scottish on my mother's side as well as 10% English, 2% Norwegian, 2% French on my mother's side.
I am a direct descendant of Robert 1, Duke of Normandy (father of William the Conqueror) He being my 28th great grandfather, William the Conqueror my 27th great grandfather, as well as Henry the 1st being my 26th great grandfather, His daughter Matilda, who was married to Geoffery Plantagenet, was my 25th great grandmother, their son Henry II was my 24th great grandfather, and King John of England was my 23rd great grandfather, and the list goes on. My 7th great uncle was Oliver Wolcott one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence. My 7th great grandfather, Alexander Wolcott was a Doctor during the Revolutionary War. Roger Wolcott my 8th great grandfather was Colonial Governor of Connecticut (1741-1750). My 10th great grandfather Henry Wolcott Esq. came to America in 1630 with his family aboard the ship "Mary and John" from Lydeard St Lawrence in Somerset, England, he was one of the founders of Windsor, Connecticut back in 1633..My Great grandfather's 1st cousin was Caroline Starr Balestier who was married to Rudyard Kipling. My 3rd great uncle Joseph Balestier was a statesman and Ambassdor to Shanghai and was married to Paul Revere's daughter Maria Revere. I am also related to Ellen Marian Kinzie who was married to my 3rd great uncle, Alexander Wolcott III. Ellen Kinzie was the first born child at Fort Dearborn in Chicago, Illinois. Her father John Kinzie was the founder of Chicago, Illinois. I would say I come from a long line of important people through the centuries, but there are some that weren't as important as those, Dukes, Kings and Queens, but they are very important to me because I wouldn't be here today if it weren't for them.
