James' partner was Nancy Ann West, and they had children Iva Williams, Louisa Williams, Jesse Williams, Mary Rose 'Polly' Williams, Stephen Williams, Amos Williams, Nancy Williams, Malinda Williams, James Williams Jr., Alvin Williams, Elizabeth Williams, and Warren Reader Williams.
