2020 marks 20 years since the inception of AncientFaces. We are the same team who began this community so long ago. Over the years it feels, at least to us, that our family has expanded to include so many. Thank you!

John Sidney McCain III
A photo of John Sidney McCain III - son and grandson of 4 star admirals in the U.S. Navy.
He attended the United States Naval Academy (graduating, as he joked, 5th from the bottom in his class in 1958 - he was a bit of a rebel) and after graduation became a naval aviator. In 1967, he requested combat duty and was assigned to an aircraft carrier in the Gulf in Tonkin. On October 26, 1967 his plane was shot down and he became a prisoner of war.
After 5 and a half years as a prisoner of war and being severely tortured, John was released. The physical effects of his torture lasted the rest of his life.
In the early 1980s, he entered politics in the state of Arizona, eventually becoming a U.S. Senator. While he was nominated for President by the Republican Party in 2008, he lost the race to Democrat Barack Obama. He remained the senior Senator from Arizona until his death from brain cancer in 2018.

Unknown Swedish Sisters
Photo of an unknown pair of sisters. It looks as though this photo was taken by Franksson photography studio in Ockelbo. Ockelbo is a locality and the seat of Ockelbo Municipality, Gävleborg County, Sweden and Franksson seems to be the photographer.
Photo found in an antique store in Bremerton Washington - many early settlers in Washington were of Swedish or Norwegian extraction. They may have been immigrants?
Who are these girls?

Louise Ballweg Block
I've "rescued" an old photograph of Louise BALLWEG BLOCK which was taken sometime in the 1880's. The photograph was taken at the Arcade Gallery Studio in Peoria, IL with Louise appearing to be in her early teens at the time. In addition to her name someone has written "Aunt Lou" and "Nana's Sister" and "born about 1873" on the back of the photograph. Based on limited research I was able to find the following information:
Louisa BALLWEG was b. 18 Nov 1868 in Minnesota to parents Charles BALLWEG (1843-1919) and Minnie MASTENBROOK (1844-1910). Louisa was one of 6 children born to this couple including, Louisa; Helena Catherine “Minnie”; William Charles; Charles Edward; Frank Joseph; and Clara Agnes BALLWEG, all born between 1868 and 1884. Louisa married Charles W. BLOCK (b. 1870) and she died in Napa, CA on 29 Oct 1947.
I am hoping to be able to return the photograph to her family. If you are a member of this family, or you know someone who might be, please contact me.
Thanks,
Shelley

Cissie Wilson
A photo of Cissie Wilson. Cissie Wilson was the name she gave herself, or the family solicitor J Ingram Dawson gave her, to hide her identity when she became pregnant in 1912. Her name was in fact Constance and her grandfather had been a Wilson, but was required to change his name to marry Cissie's grandmother.

Cody Family
I’ve “rescued” an old photograph of three children identified as children of Hary & Hazle CODY. The children are identified as Fredrich age 3 years; Hary age 1 year and 11 months; and Jack Leroy not quite 3 months old. There is no studio or location indicated on the photograph and I’m guessing that it was taken sometime in the early 1900’s prior to 1920. I’m hoping to locate someone from the family so that this precious old photograph can be returned to the care of family. If you are a member of this CODY Family, or you know someone who might be, please contact me.
Thanks,
Shelley
