Roy Engelbretson

Roy Englebretson was the son of John Englebretson (born October 2, 1879) and Anna M. Englebretson (born 1883). He had siblings John Englebretson Jr., Agnes, Margaret, Emil, Norman, and Bette Englebretson. He grew up in Huron Ward 3, Beadle, South Dakota, and graduated from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska. Roy married Anita Jayne of Omaha, and they had one child, Jo Ann. Roy was commissioned at Ft. Benning, Georgia, on November 17, 1942, and stationed at Camp Maxey, Texas, until he left for overseas duty in 1944. He was initially stationed in England before being deployed to Belgium. On December 27, 1944, he was wounded in combat in Belgium and received the Purple Heart. He was wounded again on January 30, 1945, and died the same day. Two days before his death, he was awarded the Captain's Commission.
