Esque Simmons was born to Shedrick "Shade" Simmons (1851 - 1932) and Malissa Franklin (1874 - 1915) and was born in Texas. Both of his parents were also born in Texas. He had siblings Essie Lena, Clark G., William Henry, Flroence, and Florene S. Simmons. He also had half siblings Robert S., Johnnie, Samuel Leon, Joseph, Arsula, Ida, Gracia, and Hurndon Simmons,
Esque Simmons, also known as "S Q" was married to Corene, or Corine, McMiller and they had children John Quince Simmons, Freida L. Simmons, and Millie Fage Johnson. He was widowed by 1950.
