My dad worked hard to support a large family. In the winter when there was no work in our hometown, he would go to the surrounding states to find work and come home on weekends and sometimes his hands would be frozen to his gloves because the weather was so harsh and he would put his hands on the potbelly stove so he can remove the gloves. He never complained he just knew it was what he had to do.
He loved to garden. He always had tomatoes which was his biggest love and carrots and lettuce, things that he knew he had to feed the family. In his older life before he moved to Missouri he had a rented some ground so he could have 750 tomato plants and he had always had ideas that he could just feed so many people. He had a green thumb.
He loved to fish, he made all 5 of us kids cane poles so we could follow him to the river. He figured that way he would know where we were at all time.
