2020 marks 20 years since the inception of AncientFaces. We are the same team who began this community so long ago. Over the years it feels, at least to us, that our family has expanded to include so many. Thank you!

Group in Worcester England
This is a 1898 photo, Eliza Davis (nee Preston) is on the bottom left corner. I have now confirmed, thanks to the university of Toronto, that this is a photo of women at the Clains Church in Worcestershire. They are a group of women whose husbands have died. It is a support group. Eliza's age was about 45 years at the time of the photo. For a small town, that's a lot of widowed women. 1898 was one year before her son William was sent to Canada as a Home Child. Eliza's husband John Davis had died 8 years prior and the children were being cared for by her mother-in-law, Hanna Davis (EWINS). Eliza and John had 5 boys, Alfred, George, William, James and little Herbert who was born just 2 months before his father died. In the 1911 census Eliza notes she has two children who have died. One girl died as a baby. Herbert must have died before 1911.
