I want to build a place where my son can meet his great-grandparents. My grandmother Marian Joyce (Benning) Kroetch always wanted to meet her great-grandchildren, but she died just a handful of years before my son's birth.
So while she didn't have the opportunity to meet him, at least he will be able to know her.

My father's side is full blood Sicilian and my mother's side is a combination of Welsh, Scottish, German and a few other European cultures. One of my more colorful (ahem black sheep) family members came over on the Mayflower. He was among the first to be hanged in the New World for a criminal offense he made while onboard the ship.

George R. Gilroy was a salesman for American Can Co in the 1960s and 1970s. He worked in the paper products division, American Can had purchased the former Northern Paper Mills. He worked in the wholesale and retail grocery trade selling the Northern product line: Northern Toilet Tissue, Northern Facial Tissues, Aurora Bathroom Tissue, Gala (paper) Towels, Waxtex Waxed Paper (rolls), and a latecomer, Dixie Bathroom Cups.
George was promoted to sales manager and transferred from his native state, Oregon, to Phoenix, Arizona. He bought a home in Scottsdale, a nearby suburb. There he lived with his wife Julia and three children, Tamarah, David, Linda.
George had two siblings: Agatha, who passed away, and a brother Michael (Mike) who is alive at the time of this writing (Nov 9, 2022).
Late in the 1960s or early 1970s, American Can terminated its Arizona salesforce and turned the product line's sales over to a local food broker. The author left the company shortly before that. George and his other employee, Dennis Small, found other work.
I discovered two of his children on Facebook and will notify them of this page. George was an honest and pleasant man and a fair boss to me and Dennis.

George Richard Gilroy of East Van Buren St., in Phoenix, Maricopa County, Arizona USA was born on March 12, 1932 in Portland, Multnomah County, Oregon United States, and died at age 52 years old on April 21, 1984. George Gilroy was buried on April 26, 1984 at Willamette National CemeterySection E Site 655 11800 Se Mt. Scott Boulevard, in Portland.
Clyde Laymon of Lincoln, Lancaster County, Nebraska was born on January 11, 1908, and died at age 67 years old in December 1975.
