Known professionally as Valerie Harper and born (a Catholic) to a lighting salesman and a nurse in Suffern, New York, Valerie was the middle of three children.

She trained as a dancer and began her career in NYC as a chorus girl. She moved on to the comedy group Second City, where she met and married comedian Dick Schaal. They were married in 1964 and divorced in 1978.

In 1970, while living in Los Angeles. she auditioned for the role of "Rhoda" on the Mary Tyler Moore Show - and starred on the show for 4 years. Her spin-off from the Mary Tyler Moore Show, "Rhoda", was on tv for another 4 years, making her a fixture on 1970s tv.

A popular actress and comedian, she appeared in numerous television shows, movies, and theater productions and was nominated for Emmys (won 4), Golden Globes (won 1), and a Tony . She was also an activist for the E.R.A. and the Women's Liberation Movement and co-founded a charity that feeds the needy in L.A.

In 2009, she was diagnosed with lung cancer and in 2013, with brain cancer, both of which she courageously fought for several years.

On August 30, 2019, Valerie succumbed to her illnesses at age 80. She was survived by her husband, Tony Cacciotti, her husband since 1987, and their (adopted) daughter, actress Cristina Cacciotti.

He was best known as a versatile comedian on Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In, which ran from 1968 through 1973. This photo of him is as the character "Wolgang" - a "cigarette-smoking German soldier" who believed that World War II was still raging. His recurring comment was "verrrry interesting".

He also played a dirty old man - "Tyrone F. Horneigh" - to Ruth Buzzi's prim old spinster and the man who rode the tricycle, always falling over, as well as numerous other characters.

Before retiring in 2006, Arte performed in numerous guest spots as well as doing voice overs. Dying of cancer on July 3, 2019, he is survived by his wife and brother.

Penny Marshall & Rob Reiner, 1971
A photo of the backyard wedding of Penny Marshall and Rob Reiner in 1971.

The daughter of Marjorie Marshall, a tap dance teacher, and Tony Marshall, a film director and producer, and the sister of Garry Marshall (her sister was a casting director and producer), it's not surprising that Penny entered the entertainment industry as well. She was a actress (probably best known for the series "Laverne and Shirley), director, and producer. She brought us years of laughter in her productions.

She married Rob Reiner in 1971 (himself a well known entertainer and the son of Carl Reiner) and they were married for a decade. A previous marriage resulted in a daughter, Tracy (who is also an actor), and Rob adopted her.

Penny died of complications from diabetes on December 18, 2018 in Los Angeles CA - a continent away from her birthplace, The Bronx, New York City.

I've "rescued" an old photograph of Lucy BLAIR EDWARDS which was taken at the Alton Gallery Studio in Alton, IL. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1860's with Lucy likely in her teens at the time. Based on limited research I was able to locate the following information regarding Lucy and her family:

Lucy married Elias Loomis EDWARDS (b. 6 Jul 1846 in Illinois) in Alton, IL on 22 Dec 1874. Her husband died suddenly in January 1890 in Minneapolis, MN and she returned to Alton with her two children, Julia V. Blair EDWARDS and John S. Blair EDWARDS.

Lucy died 5 Jun 1919 in Illinois and is buried in the Oakwood Cemetery in Upper Alton, IL. Daughter Julia married Mr. CULBERTSON and was residing in Oak Park, IL when her Mother died. Lucy’s son John Blair EDWARDS married Salome Cushman HATHEWAY (dau of Noah Cushman HATHEWAY and Harriett WADE) on 20 Jun 1900 in Madison Co. IL and was living in St. Louis, MO when his Mother passed away. Three of Lucy’s sisters were still living at the time of her death including, Mrs. Augustus L. ABBOTT of St. Louis, MO; Mrs. Lillian M. A photo of Dietrich Bonhoeffer. Dietrich was a German pastor who was part of the German resistance and a conspiracy plot to get rid of Hitler and the Nazi regime. He was arrested for smuggling 7 Jews from Germany to Switzerland. When the July 20th plot to kill Hitler failed (in which he took part), he was sent to Buchenwald concentration camp in February 1945, then he was transported to Flossenburg concentration camp, then sadly executed by hanging on April 9, 1945.

He said "the ultimate question for a responsible man to ask is not how he is to extricate himself heroically from the affair, but how the coming generation shall continue to live."

My great-great grandmother, Leah Alice Cloud Clark: I'm looking for any information anyone may have. Leah Alice may have gone by Alice and was, according to family lore, Cherokee. She died very young, like in her early 30's in the Nevada, Missouri area.

Does anyone have any other photos of her, or does anyone recognize this photo as their relative?
