This photo, taken in 1953, is of my dad, Miny Poe, encouraging me to learn how to ski. The classes were taught by a Swiss-expatriate, Tommy Tyndal, who later opened and ran Snow Summit in the San Gabriel Mountains two hours from Long Beach.

This photo is one of many found in a series of old early 1900's Badger Gem family scrapbooks that were donated anonymously by a family in Green Valley Arizona. These photos seem to be of select areas including Southern California, Chico, Coronado San Diego, Long Beach Pasadena, Yellowstone National Park, Colorado, and the Continental Divide.
Who is this whimsical family? And why are they pulling an old fashioned buggy?

Child actress Shirley Temple in a movie still or promotional picture. Shirley Temple was born Shirley Jane Temple in 1928 and was a media phenomenon not only in her childhood but in succeeding generations as well.
Most of her personal success was in films when she was a child. She did some films as a teen/young adult (my personal favorite was The Bachelor and the Bobbysoxer, had a tv show 1960 - 1961, and spent most of her adulthood in politics.
