Alan Gregory Curtis
The information I have added to this family tree is based on the writings of Aimee Krushka gleaned from her father (early 20’s) and her. Grandfather (early 40’s) This information was then cross referenced with Tasmanian Archives, Birth, Deaths & Marriages Register, Australian National Archives and ancestory.com (Germany) I see no reason to disbelieve the accuracy of Christian or Christopher because at the time of the diary entries neither age nor memory would cloud accuracy. I was prompted to do this research after reading numerous book and viewing a video documentary on history of the North East because: I find it hard to believe that a 18 year old Kruschke son had arrived in Upper Ringarooma with a wife and children and purchased a large parcel of land (Mineral Banks) prior to their discovery of tin. I find it hard to believe that Christian would permit his son (Christopher) 13 years old to go into rugged bush prospecting with George Renison Bell (32 years old) and discover Brothers Home whilst he, Augusta and the baby Louisa were struggling to build a cottage and garden at Fordview. I didn’t happen as Renison Bell did not teach them the art of prospecting until William, Charles and Frederick arrived at Fordview from Mathinna. It was only after they established a weather proof house for their father and two sisters did they venture out prospecting. William had decided by then to prospect alone. (ref dates to Lands & Mining titles) I also do not believe they just anglicised the Kruschke name to Krushka. That is like changing the the surname Cooper to Curtis. Yes you can anglicise a Christian Name but to completely change a surname no. I strongly believe Kruschke was changed to Krushka because of a combination of not understanding what Johanna was saying, the Richmond doctor entering the wrong surname on both birth and death certificates and the Van Deimens Land Dept of Birth, Deaths & Marriages found it easier issue documents to the new arrivals than to go back and change the certificates already in their possession and then to issue new certificates for the rest of the Kruschke family. It is my belief the name Krushka goes back to the town of Krushka in Bulgaria where we can trace the Kruschke family back to. It is a shame Aimee Krushka’s original diary is missing as this information is gleaned from two book based on the diary. The original diary may have been lost when Northview burnt down or it may still be in possession of descendants of the Tregar or Adamson families. My entered details may not be entirely accurate but based on my research I think it’s fairly close. Note: If Christian & Johanna had not moved to Van Deimens Land in 1855 then would be no Krushka’s or linked familes in Australia. Work: APPM (Burnie) 1966 Gordon Ibott Construction (Burnie) 1976 FR Tulk/Westral Insulated Products 1977/2003 (Perth WA) as Sales Manager including a 6months period at Austral Insulated Products in Douglasville, Georgia USA Naval Service included: Escort Duties for Vietnam.
