Mary Two Eagles, 1970s
During the summer months, Mary would ride her horse through Custer, SD while holding her little dog and a small portable radio to listen to. Mary would accept tips from Tourists who wanted to take her photograph. She was known to cover her head with a large paper grocery sack and ride off when she was offered no tips! (Super Mellow Horse!)

John Two Eagles of Custer, Custer County, SD was born on January 15, 1896 in Pine Ridge, Shannon County. John Two Eagles was married to Mary Two Eagles, and died at age 70 years old in 1966.


Mary Two Eagles married John Two Eagle (1887 - 1966). John was listed on the Indian Census Rolls as being Sioux and Cheyenne and he lived on the Pine Ridge Reservation. They had children Julia, Emma, Joseph, and John Two Eagle Junior.
Mary was later listed as the widow of John, who was a former "Indian Scout" for the United States Army.
