I attended your Celebration of Life today at Darling Fischer Garden Chapel in downtown San Jose. Father Gary Thomas presided, and David, Jo Harmon, and Pamela Fernandes-Smith spoke about the lovely shining woman you were. Afterwards, your guests socialized at the St. Claire Club while your family laid you to rest in Madronia Cemetery in Saratoga. I saw old friends and met a new one who of course got me interested in Little Italy in San Jose. Fitting given Aldo's Italian history in San Jose.
I got to enjoy your favorite Scotchmellow candy, which I agree, is delicious!
Rest in peace Beverly...

A photo of Beverly Washington & fiance Aldo Scoffone on the beach in Santa Cruz, California taken about 1948. That's my Mom, Joyce Benning Kroetch Vandever, in the background, lying on the beach and shading her eyes. Those were the days - when you could sunbathe without worrying about the consequences!

Circa 1948 in Santa Cruz California, Beverly Washington and Aldo Scoffone enjoying the beach. They would later marry, have children and grandchildren, and spend their lives together in the San Francisco Bay Area.
After the Great Depression and World War 2, relaxing moments like these were exactly what this generation needed.
Rest in peace Bev. I'll always remember the many Christmas gatherings with you and the entire Scoffone clan at the home in Monte Sereno. You were a part of my family as I was growing up.
I'll remember the many meals at La Hacienda and La Riconada...The time I gathered a few friends during high school to serve as valets for an event you held where I *almost* got to drive a Bentley for the first time. The time I house sat for you while you were on some adventure.
And I'll always remember one of the last times I saw you as a child and I shared that I wanted my wife to live a life like yours. You said "Al takes care of me VERY well". Well my friend, my wife thanks you for the example you provided ;)
You are one of the last of this generation that saw San Jose evolve into what it's becoming. You made it to 92 and almost outlived them all.

"Bev & Al" were like another pair of grandparents to me growing up. Bev and my grandmother Marian Joyce (Benning) Kroetch were best friends at a very early age through well into their senior years and kept in communication during my grandmother's dementia until her death in 2017. There are a number of photos of these two.
I remember every single year without fail I would have 2 Christmases - one with my family and one with the Scoffones and their large family at her family home in Monte Sereno. We spent a lot of time at La Rinconada Country Club and La Hacienda Inn which was walking distance from their house.
Had great times with her grandchildren AJ, Buddy and Alecia often playing pool downstairs.
