  • Ethnicity & Family History

Carrie Fisher was of mixed ethnicity, with her mother, Debbie Reynolds, being of English, Scottish, and Irish descent, while her father, Eddie Fisher, was of Russian Jewish and Polish Jewish ancestry. Fisher's family history was marked by the glamour and drama of Hollywood. Her parents were both famous entertainers, with her mother starring in classic films such as Singin' in the Rain and The Unsinkable Molly Brown, and her father achieving chart-topping success as a singer in the 1950s. However, their marriage was tumultuous and ended in divorce when Fisher was just two years old. Following her parents' split, Fisher spent much of her childhood shuttling between their respective households. She later described her upbringing as "unusual and unstable," and said that she often felt like an outsider in the world of show business. Despite these challenges, Fisher went on to forge her own successful career in the entertainment industry. However, she remained close to her family throughout her life, particularly her mother, with whom she had a famously close relationship. When Reynolds passed away in 2016, just one day before Fisher, it was widely seen as a heartbreaking end to a long and complicated family saga.
  • Nationality & Locations

Fisher was born in Beverly Hills, California, and spent much of her childhood in the Los Angeles area. Following her parents' divorce, she split her time between their respective homes, which were located in Beverly Hills and New York City. As an adult, Fisher continued to move around frequently, often due to work-related commitments. She lived in London, England, for several years in the 1970s while filming Star Wars and its sequels, and also spent time in New York City, where she pursued a career as a playwright and screenwriter. Fisher lived in various locations in the United States, including Los Angeles, New York, and San Francisco, over the course of her life. In addition to her domestic travels, Fisher also lived in various international locations. She spent time in Paris, France, in the 1980s, where she worked on a novel and became involved in the city's cultural scene. She also lived in Rome, Italy, for a period of time, and frequently traveled to other European cities for work and leisure.
  • Early Life & Education

Carrie Fisher's educational journey was somewhat unconventional, as she dropped out of college to pursue her acting career. Fisher attended Beverly Hills High School, where she was known for her quick wit and irreverent sense of humor. However, her academic performance was somewhat uneven, and she struggled with undiagnosed learning disabilities that made certain subjects challenging for her. After graduating from high school in 1974, Fisher enrolled at Sarah Lawrence College in New York. However, she quickly found that the college's focus on independent study and self-directed learning did not suit her learning style, and she dropped out after just one year to pursue acting.
  • Religious Beliefs

Carrie Fisher was raised in a primarily Protestant Christian household, but her family background was diverse, with her father, Eddie Fisher, being of Jewish heritage. While Fisher was not raised in the Jewish faith, she later became interested in exploring her Jewish roots. Fisher's mother, Debbie Reynolds, was raised in a strict Nazarene Christian household, and Fisher was exposed to Christian teachings and values from a young age. However, she was also exposed to a wide range of spiritual and philosophical ideas over the course of her life, and was known for her eclectic and open-minded approach to religion and spirituality. In her memoirs and interviews, Fisher frequently discussed her struggles with addiction and mental illness, and often drew on spiritual practices and beliefs as a source of strength and inspiration. She explored various spiritual traditions, including Buddhism and New Age spirituality, and was known to practice meditation and yoga as a means of improving her mental health and well-being.
  • Military Service

Fisher was known for her advocacy work on behalf of military veterans. She was a vocal supporter of organizations like the USO and the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund, which provide support to military personnel and their families. She also traveled to military bases around the world to perform for troops and show her appreciation for their service. In 2011, Fisher was recognized for her support of the military when she was awarded the Joint Civilian Service Commendation Award, the third-highest honor awarded to civilians by the United States Department of Defense.
  • Professional Career

Fisher began her career in acting in the mid-1970s, making her film debut in the 1975 comedy "Shampoo." However, she rose to fame with her portrayal of Princess Leia Organa in the original "Star Wars" trilogy from 1977 to 1983. She reprised the role in the 2015 film "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" and posthumously in "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker" through the use of archive footage. Aside from acting, Fisher was also a talented writer. In 1987, she published her first novel, "Postcards from the Edge," which was later adapted into a film starring Meryl Streep. She went on to publish several other novels, memoirs, and screenplays throughout her career, including "The Best Awful There Is" and "Wishful Drinking." Fisher was also an outspoken mental health advocate, drawing from her own struggles with bipolar disorder and addiction to raise awareness and fight stigma. In 2001, she released her one-woman show, "Wishful Drinking," which later became a memoir and an HBO documentary. She continued to speak candidly about her mental health struggles and the importance of seeking treatment until her death. 1975: Fisher made her film debut in the comedy Shampoo, directed by Hal Ashby and starring Warren Beatty. 1977-1983: Fisher achieved international fame as Princess Leia in the Star Wars franchise, which included the original trilogy (Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi). 1980s: Fisher began to establish herself as a successful screenwriter, with credits including the comedy films Postcards from the Edge (1990) and The Wedding Singer (1998). 1987: Fisher published her first novel, Postcards from the Edge, a semi-autobiographical work that drew on her experiences as the daughter of Hollywood legends Debbie Reynolds and Eddie Fisher. 1990s: Fisher continued to act in films and on television, appearing in projects such as When Harry Met Sally... (1989), Soapdish (1991), and The Blues Brothers (1998). 2000s: Fisher made occasional appearances on television shows such as Sex and the City and Weeds, and continued to write and publish books, including the memoirs Wishful Drinking (2008) and The Princess Diarist (2016). 2015-2016: Fisher reprised her role as Princess Leia in the new Star Wars trilogy, including The Force Awakens (2015) and The Last Jedi (2017). She also appeared in the British television series Catastrophe, for which she received an Emmy nomination.
  • Personal Life & Family

Fisher struggled with substance abuse and mental health issues throughout her life, openly discussing her experiences with addiction, bipolar disorder, and depression. She was also known for her sense of humor and her irreverent approach to her own struggles, which she often wrote and spoke about in her work. In 1983, Fisher married singer-songwriter Paul Simon. However, their relationship was tumultuous, and they divorced just one year later. Fisher later revealed that she struggled with substance abuse during their marriage, which contributed to their separation. In 1991, Fisher gave birth to her only child, a daughter named Billie Lourd. Lourd would later become an actress in her own right, starring in the television series "Scream Queens" and the "Star Wars" sequel trilogy. In 2005, Fisher began a relationship with talent agent Bryan Lourd, whom she had known since they were teenagers. However, their relationship ended in 2010, reportedly due to Lourd's relationship with another man.

Happy #StarWarsDay! It's been 45 years since the release of the original Star Wars?! Take a look at the original cast taken in 1977.

Did you know that #MayThe4thBeWithYou has many different meanings? The classic slogan was used to great others on the 4th of July, to celebrate Margaret Thatcher becoming Britain's first female prime minister, and of course a play on "May the force be with you".
Kenny Baker played R2D2, Anthony Daniels played C3PO.
Princess Leila
Princess Leila
Carrie played the role of "Princess Leia" a fictional character in the "Star Wars" franchise. She is introduced in the original 1977 film, "Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope," and goes on to appear in subsequent films in the series.

Princess Leia is a key figure in the Rebel Alliance, fighting against the evil Galactic Empire. She is strong-willed and determined, serving as a diplomat, spy, and leader throughout the films. She is also known for her sharp wit and sarcasm, as well as her iconic hairstyles and outfits.

One of Leia's most notable moments comes in "Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back," when she reveals to Han Solo that she loves him, to which he famously responds, "I know." Her role as a powerful and independent woman in a male-dominated genre helped to break down gender barriers in science fiction and inspired many female fans.
