James Alexander David Nish of Essendon, Moonee Valley City County, VIC Australia was born in 1875 in Bendigo, Greater Bendigo City County to Rev. James Nish and Margaret (Young) Nish. He had siblings Samuel George Nish, Augusta Elizabeth Nish, Mary Henderson (Nish) Mackay, John Henderson Young Nish, and Janet Henderson (Nish) Thom. He married Vans Victoria (Thwaites) Nish, and they were married until death separated them. He had children Dr. John Noel Nish, Margaret (Nish) Foster, and James Ian Nish. James Nish died at age 79 years old on April 30, 1955 at Sacred Heart Hospital, Coburg,, in Moreland County, and was buried at Ashes Scattered, Fawkner Memorial Park, in Hadfield, Merri-Bek City County.

In 1875, in the year that Dr. James Alexander David Nish was born, on March 1st, Congress passed the Civil Rights Act. The Act prohibited racial discrimination in both public accommodations and jury duty. Opposed by the public, the "public accommodations" sections of the Act were overturned by the Supreme Court eight years later.

In 1887, he was just 12 years old when on July 1st, the assembly for the supports of the Eiffel Tower began . A wrought iron lattice tower, it was designed and built by Gustave Eiffel - who also contributed to the building of the Statue of Liberty. There are 18,000 pieces in the Eiffel Tower - which had to be built separately and then assembled in place - with rivets - to complete the Tower.
