Margaret (Young) Nish was born on December 19, 1831 in Edinburgh, Edinburgh County, Scotland United Kingdom to Alexander Young and Janet (Henderson) Young, and had siblings Alexander Young, John Young, and James Young. She married Rev. James Nish in 1855 in Bendigo County, Victoria Australia, and they were married until death separated them. She had children Janet Henderson (Nish) Thom, Mary Henderson (Nish) Mackay, John Henderson Young Nish, Augusta Elizabeth Nish, Dr. James Alexander David Nish, and Samuel George Nish. Margaret Nish died at age 83 years old on January 9, 1915 in Armadale, Stonnington City County, VIC Australia, and was buried at Bendigo Lawn Cemetery, in Quarry Hill, Greater Bendigo City County.

    The Bendigo Advertiser. Vic. 19th September 1855. MARRIED. On the 18th instant, at the Kangaroo Flat Quartz-crushing Mills, by the Rev. James Ballantine, of Collins-street, Melbourne, the Rev. James Nish, Presbyterian Minister, Sandhurst, to Margaret, only daughter of the late Alexander Young, Edinburgh.

    The Benalla Standard. Vic. 12th January 1915. - MRS. NISH, SEN. The death occurred at her residence in Armadale on Saturday of Mrs. Nish, relict of the late Rev. Dr. Nish, and mother of Dr. Nish, of Benalla, at the age of 83 years. The deceased lady arrived in Bendigo in 1854, and in the following year married Dr. Nish, who was the first minister at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, a position he held from 1854 to 1889, when he retired. The family then went to live at Armadale, where Dr. Nish died in 1891. Another of her sons was the late Mr. J. H. Y. Nish, who was for many years sub-editor of the Argus. He died three years ago. Two sons and five daughters survive Mrs. Nish, the sons being Mr. S. G. Nish, civil engineer, of Orbost, and Dr. J. A. D. Nish, of Benalla. Three of the daughters are Mrs. R. Thom, of Heidelberg, Mrs. G. Mackay, of Bendigo, and Mrs. P. Robin, of Elsternwick, the other two daughters, who are unmarried, having resided at home with their mother.
