Eleanor (Lewis) Whitby was born in 1826 to Charles Thomas Lewis and Sarah Lewis. She married Archdale Low Whitby on March 7, 1846 in Bermondsey, Greater London County, England United Kingdom, and they were married until death separated them. She had children Archie Charles Whitby, Angelina Catherine Whitby, George Whitby, Louisa Florence Lind, Annie Mayhew, and Mabel Penelope Donbavand. Eleanor Whitby died at age 60 years old on February 15, 1887 in Kew, Boroondara City County, VIC Australia.

It was the 50th anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence. Jefferson died a few hours before Adams. Adams, unaware of Jefferson's death - who was both a friend and a rival - said as he was dying ""Thomas Jefferson survives."

In 1846, at the age of 20 years old, Eleanor was alive when on June 15th, the Oregon Treaty - between Great Britain and the US - was signed. The Treaty agreed that the 49th parallel would be the border between the United States and Canada. Since the actual border wasn't clear in the Treaty, dispute about what was Canada and what was the US continued for a decade.
