  • Introduction

Josephine Macioroski, better known as "Josie", left this earth on Thursday, morning July 24, 2008 at approximately 7:00 am at the Circle Medical facility due to a stroke. Josie was born on June 10th at what at that time was known as one of Khans rooming house in Terry. She was not the only baby born there at that time there were others. The home presently is the residence of the Bruski family on McDonald Avenue, across from the now occupied Buffalo Rapids business. She was the daughter of Alexander Macioroski and Elsie Alice Szczesney- immigrant parents who came from across the ocean for freedom of all sorts probably the same occasion that is taking presently. She was baptized, received her first communion and was confirmed in the Catholic faith. Some of her religious education was received at the current John Roos residence where church services were held and also in Circle, MT and later at the Terry Church. Her first eight years of school education were at the rural school Valley View, approximately a half mile from the farmstead. That year in 1941 the school closed after her graduation due to lack of students. There were only four students left. Her dad was one of the teachers. That fall she entered Terry High and graduated from the facility. Due to the death of her father and one of her "kid" brothers, she went to work at the Lutheran Hospital which now is the retired Prairie Manor. Shortly after that she worked for Chris and Shirley Lampe, known to most today as Bud and Bettes, and also at the Yellowstone Café and Rogers Café when Clarice Burkingham was the proprietor. She left that type of work waiting tables and went to help her brothers with the raising of registered Herefords. She resided the remainder of her life in the place she truly cherished and loved - nature in its beauty. She helped manage the affairs of the ranch-farm and a "monkey wrench" was thrown into the operation and they had to purchase some of the land involved. She loved to cook and had her own special "knack" to throw stuff together and come out with wonderful food dishes. She had her own techniques in making salami and sausage which she made for hunters from Pennsylvania and neighbors. She made sausage and it was cured at the R&H Locker in Terry. She also made sauerkraut with her own private recipe, a lot of which was given away. Later years, her health began to decline, her kid brother Stan had an aneurism in 1989 and she stayed with him the entire period of this ordeal. After his recovery she cared for her older brother and kept the financial operations of the farm and ranch together. Later Stan had to receive medical attention, she carried that load also. She was grateful to God to help her with what transpired in her life-and her door was always open for a cup of coffee and a meal. Josie was preceded in death by her parents, sister Alma Mothershead, an infant sister, brothers; Albert, Joseph, Elmer, Chester, Peter, Tom, Roy and Stanley. Survivors include Alice (Leon) Gothard, Barb Macioroski and Tony (Vernette) Macioroski. Numerous nieces and nephews and special friends from Wisconsin, the Wyss brothers and David and Matt Macioroski, Perry Jensen and Frank Sir. She is also survived by her special friends that were with her faithfully until the end, Ralph and Benji.
