Linda Isobell (Scott) Devenport was born on March 21, 1891 in Prahran, Stonnington City County, VIC Australia to William Haig Scott and Susannah Jessie (Mower) Scott, and had siblings Hazel Gladys (Scott) Morris and William David Mower Scott. She married Howard Vernon Devenport in 1921, and they were married until death separated them. She had a child Norma Linda ( Devenport) Lock. Linda Devenport died at age 86 years old on February 15, 1978 in Maryborough, Fraser Coast Regional County, QLD, and was buried at Maryborough Monumental Cemetery, in Maryborough West.

In 1905, at the age of only 14 years old, Linda was alive when the Niagara Falls conference was held in Fort Erie, Ontario. Led by W.E.B. Du Bois and William Monroe Trotter, a group of African-American men met in opposition to racial segregation and disenfranchisement. Booker T. Washington had been calling for policies of accommodation and conciliation and these two men, along with the others who attended the conference, felt that this was accomplishing nothing. The group was the precursor to the NAACP.
