He had siblings Amy Eliza Naismith, Ada (Naismith) Wilde, Albert Naismith, Edmund James Naismith, Annie Maria (Naismith) Roberts, William George Naismith, and Samuel Naismith. Norman Naismith married Lillian May Turk in 1921, and died at age 75 years old on December 7, 1975 in Ballarat, City of Ballarat County.

In 1899, in the year that Norman Naismith was born, the meaning of Chinese "oracle bones" was rediscovered. Farmers in China had been turning up the bones in their fields for generations but most often they were ground up and sold as medicine.
