Sarah Clara (Dubber) Prince 1884 - 1970

Sarah Clara (Dubber) Prince of Prahran Australia was born in 1884 in Tanjil, Baw Baw Shire County, VIC to Emily Varney Dubber and Frederick Charles Dubber. She had siblings Joseph Samuel Dubber, Wallace Dubber, Alfred Dubber, Jessie Esther Dubber, Louisa Parker Dubber, Ethel (Dubber) Davies, Frederick John Dubber, Lydia (Dubber) Ennor, and Emily Victoria (Dubber) Hay. She married Charles Alfred Prince in 1907, and had children Allan Charles Prince, Ella Claire Prince, Colleen Adella Prince, Phyllis Vernon Prince, Leonie Prince, and Sadie Prince. Sarah Prince died at age 86 years old in 1970 in Prahran, City of Stonnington County.

In 1884, in the year that Sarah Clara (Dubber) Prince was born, on December 6th, the Washington Monument was completed. Building began in 1848 but was stopped because of lack of funds and also due to the Civil War. It would be dedicated in 1885. At the time of its completion, it was the tallest structure in the world.

In 1920, she was 36 years old when on November 2, radio station KDKA began broadcasting in Pittsburgh, PA. This was the first commercial radio broadcast in the United States. Westinghouse, a leading manufacturer of radios and the backer of the station, chose the date because of the Presidential election. People liked it because they could hear about the results of the election between Harding and Cox before the morning papers arrived. Four years later, there were 600 commercial stations broadcasting in the U.S.
