    William Harold Davis, 87, Sugar Creek, Missouri, passed away July 1, 1996, at Lee's Summit Hospital. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, July 11, at Fairmount Christian Church, 8th and Ash, Independence, Missouri. Cremation. Friends may call 1-2 p.m. Thursday at the church. The family requests no flowers and suggests contributions to the Fairmount Christian Church. Mr. Davis was born June 13, 1909, in Kansas City, Missouri, where he attended Central High School. He was a talented basketball player which led to his employment with General Motors, where he played on the Company Team. He was employed there for 36 years, until his retirement in 1973. A devoted family man, Harold was admired by friends and family for his untiring optimism and zest for life. He was an active member of Fairmount Christian Church for more than 50 years, where he served as Board Member and Deacon. He umpired for the Queen City Athletic Association for many years and was a member of the National Historic Railroad Society. He loved to travel and did so until the time of his recent illness. He was preceded in death by a son, Harold Frederick Davis, daughter-in-law, Jeanette Davis, and grandson, William F. Davis. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Virginia Davis; one sister, Anna Louise Peaster, Raytown; two sons, Lowell D. Davis and James H. Davis, both of Independence ; one daughter, Carole Haake, Kansas City; 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, all who will miss his guidance, enthusiasm and love. (Arrangements: George C.
