William John Leishman 1890 - 1960

William John Leishman of Mortlake, Moyne Shire County, VIC Australia was born on November 20, 1890 in Trafalgar, Baw Baw Shire County to Thomas John Leishman and Catherine "Kitty" Matheson. He had siblings Violet Ethel Leishman, Richard Andrew Leishman, Margaret Marjorie Leishman, James Alexander Leishman, Walter Ross Leishman, and David Robert Leishman. He married Alice Barbara (Mcnaughton) Leishman in 1914, and had children Robert Guy Leishman, Thomas Colin Leishman, and Ross Smith Leishman. William Leishman died at age 70 years old on December 12, 1960 in Mortlake, Moyne Shire County.

A huge success in London - opening in 1899 and running for 455 performances - the musical was even more successful in New York - running for 552 performances. The "Floradora girls" were the hit of the show - a "sextette of tall, gorgeous damsels, clad in pink walking costumes, black picture hats and carrying frilly parasols who swished onto the stage and captivated New York for no other reason than they were utterly stunning" ("tall and gorgeous" translated to 5'4"). A sensation, each Floradora girl was said to have married a millionaire.
