Richard Andrew Leishman of Mortlake, Moyne Shire County, VIC Australia was born on November 27, 1895 in Drouin, Baw Baw Shire County to Thomas John Leishman and Catherine "Kitty" Matheson. He had siblings Violet Ethel Leishman, Margaret Marjorie Leishman, James Alexander Leishman, Walter Ross Leishman, David Robert Leishman, and William John Leishman. He married Maud Evelyn Arnott in 1919, and had children Edgar Thomas Leishman and June Leishman. Richard Leishman died at age 73 years old on February 3, 1969 in Mortlake, Moyne Shire County.

Five cars started but only three completed the race. It was won by Simone Federman who drove a Daimler Omnibus - his average speed was 9.6 mph.

In 1925, he was 30 years old when gangster Al "Scarface" Capone took over the Chicago bootlegging racket at age 26. Previously right hand man to boss Johnny Torrio, Capone took over when Torrio was shot and severely injured and decided to resign. The bootlegging and brothel organization was massive and when asked what he did, Capone often replied "I am just a businessman, giving the people what they want".
