Jasper R Cockrell
Jasper Reagan Cockrell is likely remembered by most as a teacher, football coach, and Superintendent of Schools in the Corrigan-Camden High School in Corrigan Texas. Jasper was born on November 18th, 1925 in Corrigan, Texas to Allen Wesley Cockrell, Sr. (1900 - 1977), and Clara M. Safford (1904 - 1988). He had siblings Allen Jr., born 1924; Robert; Rita Mae; and Sara Jo, born 1934. A veteran of World War II, Jasper enlisted in the United States Navy in 1943. Jasper Cockrell married Mary Louise Lazalier (1927 - 2011) and they had daughters Wanda, Lynn, Janice Lynn Cockrell (1958 - 2015), Carolyn, Beverly, and Janice. Jasper and Mary Louise were married for 53 years, until Jasper died in 1999 at the age of 73. He is buried in Union Springs Cemetery in Corrigan, Polk County, Texas.

My grandmother Marian Joyce (Benning) Kroetch always wanted to meet her great-grandchildren, but she died just a handful of years before my son's birth. My father's side is full blood Sicilian and my mother's side is a combination of Welsh, Scottish, German and a few other European cultures. One of my more colorful (ahem black sheep) family members came over on the Mayflower. He was among the first to be hanged in the New World for a criminal offense he made while onboard the ship.
