Dale Holmes & Ruth Herpst met in Cairo where they were stationed in the late 1940s. They were engaged to be married but Dale lost his life shortly after in a 1947 plane crash.

Dale and my Mother were stationed in or near Cairo. They met and fell in love. I have many pictures of Dale also pictures of the location of his plane crash. Dale and my Mother (Ruth M Herpst) were engaged to marry when he died. The year was 1947 when he died. Ruth went back to Washington DC and shortly after married my Father. She never got over the loss of Dale, many tears were shed when she spoke of him even up to her death in 2013. I like to think they're together again.

I want to build a place where my son can meet his great-grandparents. My grandmother Marian Joyce (Benning) Kroetch always wanted to meet her great-grandchildren, but she died just a handful of years before my son's birth.
So while she didn't have the opportunity to meet him, at least he will be able to know her.

My father's side is full blood Sicilian and my mother's side is a combination of Welsh, Scottish, German and a few other European cultures. One of my more colorful (ahem black sheep) family members came over on the Mayflower. He was among the first to be hanged in the New World for a criminal offense he made while onboard the ship.
