Van F. Johnson
Van F. Johnson, 59 of Rhodes, died April 22, 2022, at Woodland Hospice, surrounded by his family. He was born May 3, 1962, in Midland, son of the late Robert F. and Norma (Geiling) Jonson, Sr. Van was a graduate of Meridian High School and Northwood University and had been employed at Northwood for 40 years as Director of Mail Services. He enjoyed motorcycles, fly fishing, living life to its fullest, and often considered himself larger than life.
Van is survived by his wife Ann M. Johnson of Rhodes; son, Nicholas Johnson of Portland OR, daughter Tiffany (James) Johnson of Charlotte NC, and his step-son Brad Demski of Alma; by grandchildren, Kylee, Luke and Natalie Johnson, and Christopher Demski; brothers Leonard Johnson of Midland, Mark (Elizabeth) Johnson of Sanford, Matthew Johnson of Midland, Victor (Jennifer) Johnson of Kentucky, and sisters, Deborah (Joe) Rogers of Hale and Rebecca (Rick) Card of West Branch. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Robert F. Johnson, Jr.
Van's family wishes to thank the wonderful workers and staff of Northwood University and Woodland Hospice (especially Alex).
Memorial services for Van will take place 12 noon Wednesday, April 27, 2022, from the Ware Smith Woolever Funeral Chapel, 1200 West Wheeler Street. Casual attire is required, and motorcycles are welcomed. Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until time of the service. Rather than flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Van's family.

I'm a Christian, and I'm a daughter of Allan B. Holbrook, now in heaven. My married name is Debby Stevens.
My parents, Allan and Marie, were devout Christians, and had 10 children. They were both school teachers, but Mom quit teaching at public school after marriage. But both Mom and Dad home-schooled us all - starting when I was in 1st grade - that's when they came to the decision to home-school us. Dad earned an income through being an English teacher here in Traverse City, for man years. Dad started some Bible meetings that took place in the homes of friends of ours and in our own. He was the main teacher in it, and it was in a discoursing style - he would talk about spiritual things with the fathers of the families, each time, and all the children of the families would sit and listen to it all.
