Ruth Bader Ginsberg (born Joan Ruth Bader), was an associate justice of the Supreme Court of the United States from 1993 until her death in 2020. At the time when RBG graduated from law school there was extreme discrimination against women, making it difficult for her to find a clerkship. She finally served a 2 year clerkship for Judge Edmund L. Palmieri of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York - after some pressure on Judge Palmieri from one of her law school professors. She went on to become a professor at Rutgers Law School and Columbia Law School, become an advocate for gender equality and women's rights (arguing before the Supreme Court multiple times - and winning), and serve on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit until her appointment to the Supreme Court.
