About me:
I'm a Founder of AncientFaces and support the community answering questions & helping members make connections to the past (thus my official title of Founder & Content and Community Support ). For me, it's been a labor of love for over 20 years. I truly believe with all of my heart that everyone should be remembered for generations to come.
I am 2nd generation San Jose and have seen a lot of changes in the area while growing up. We used to be known as the "Valley of Heart's Delight" (because the Valley was covered with orchards and there were many canneries to process the food grown here, which shipped all over the US) - now we have adopted the nickname "Capital of Silicon Valley" and Apple, Ebay, Adobe, Netflix, Facebook, and many more tech companies are within a few miles of my current home in San Jose (including AncientFaces). From a small town of 25,000, we have grown to 1 million plus. And when you add in all of the communities surrounding us (for instance, Saratoga, where I attended high school, living a block from our previous Mayor), we are truly one of the big cities in the US. THETFORD CENTER, VERMONT - Mr. and Mrs. William Clement Brooke of this community, formerly of Ridgewood, have announced the engagement of their daughter, Alice Robinson, to Albert Frank Gollnick Jr. of Lexington, Massachusetts, son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Frank Gollnick of Middlebury, Vermont.
Miss Brooke, a graduate of Ridgewood High School and Bates College, is Director of Student Employment at SImmons College, Boston, Massachusetts. Her fiancé, an aeronautical engineer, was graduated from Middlebury College and was awarded a BS and MS degree from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In the near future, he will take a position with the Worthington Corporation in Buffalo, New York.
The wedding is scheduled for September 26.

Married in an evening ceremony March 14 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints were Lauri Lynn Saczalski and David Grant Lane. Officiating the double-ring ceremony was Bishop Skousen
Attending as maid of honor was Regina Gilbert, New Iberia, Louisiana. Serving as bridesmaids were Kathleen Ryan, Joannie Ahumada, Robin Reed, and Joy Motsenbocker, Kathy Lane, sister of the bridegroom, was the flower girl. Best ,am was the bridegroom's brother, Scott Lane. Ushers included Eric Lane, the bridegroom's brother; Tod Saczalski, the bride's brother; Don Yarter; Jeff Hunt, Salt Lake City; Vince Magana; Troy McReynolds and Pete Villapondo. Brent Lane, brother of the bridegroom, was the ring bearer.
Patents of the newlyweds are Dr. and Mrs. Kenneth J. Saczalski, and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Lane. Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore her mother's floor- length gown of peau du soie with lace and pearl accents, and a floor-length veil of lace. She carried a bouquet of cascading white roses.
A reception at the Continental Country Club followed the ceremony. The couple took a wedding trip to Acapulco.
The bride is a 1980 Coconino High School graduate, and is attending Northern Arizona University. The bridegroom is a 1980 CHS graduate, and attended Scottsdale Community College. He is attending NAU.

. . . That will free up those two detectives to work major crimes, like the stabbing that occurred Thursday morning. In that case, 19-year-old Adam Richard Rutherford was killed in what detectives believe was a case of self-defense.
Major Crimes Lt. Scott Stephens said Rutherford and three other men got into a series of arguments with another man, 20, who lives in a apartment building at 6th and Cedar.
Detectives said they know what started the argument, but they wouldn't say why. "Rutherford and his friends started making telephone calls, making threats' against the 20-year-old man at 6th and Cedar, Stephens said. "It escalated into what happened early this morning."
After several hours of calls, Rutherford and the three men drove to 1321 6th Avenue sometime after 6 a.m., Stephens said. Two of the men - who have not been identified - stayed in the car while Rutherford and a fourth man approached the apartment. They were armed with a knife, a hatchet and some type of wrench, Stephens said. "At some point, the victim was struck and felt he had to defend himself," Stephens said. "He did draw a knife and stabbed Rutherford."
Police later found a knife sticking into the turf in front of the apartment. After the fight, the 20-year-old tenant was transported by ambulance to an area hospital, where he was treated for facial injuries and released, Stephens said. The other three men then took Rutherford to the hospital in their car. "According to his friends, (Rutherford) was conscious when they drove him to the hospital," Stephens said.
Detectives interviewed the two men in the car and the 20-year-old from the apartment. They were still searching for the man who joined Rutherford in the fight. Unless the stories change, the 20-year-old tenant will not face charges, Stephens said.

Marcus Lungi, 35, of 95 Catherine Street, pleaded guilty in City yesterday to a charge of policy playing and was fined $10 and given a 30-day suspended jail sentence by Judge Albert L. Coles. Lungi was arrested last Friday by Lieutenant William J. Halpin following a complaint. He had "numbers" slips in his possession at the time of his arrest, Lieutenant Halpin said.

HUNTSVILLE, Texas — A onetime henchman of one of the Houston area’s most notorious serial killers has died of covid-19, officials said Wednesday. David Owen Brooks was 65 when he died in a Galveston prison hospital on May 28, two weeks after he had been hospitalized with symptoms consistent with the illness caused by the novel coronavirus, according to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice website. He also suffered from a number of preexisting conditions but did test positive for the virus, and preliminary results of an autopsy suggested it was a contributing cause of his death.
Brooks was serving six life sentences in prison for his part in the reign of terror by Dean Corll, who killed at least 28 teenage boys and young men in Houston in the 1970s. Corll, a Houston electric company worker and former candy store owner, used Brooks and fellow teen Elmer Wayne Henley to lure youngsters to his apartment, where they were handcuffed and shackled to a plywood torture board before being sexually assaulted and killed.
Henley, who said he shot and killed Corll in 1973 in self-defense after hours of drinking and glue sniffing at Corll’s Pasadena house, also is serving six life sentences. Police then recovered the bodies of their victims, most from Corll’s southwest Houston boat shed. Other bodies were buried in remote areas of East Texas and at the beach. The killings were called the Houston Mass Murders — at the time, the worst in U.S. history.
Most of the bodies were badly decomposed, their identities obscured by time and elements. A few were buried with mementos that whispered of their youth and the fashions of the day: a brown fringed leather jacket, ankle-high leather boots, shorts in a tie-dyed pattern. The condition of their bodies hinted of agony in their final minutes. Henley, who turned 64 on Tuesday, became eligible for parole in 1983 but has been denied release repeatedly.

In about 1972, I attended a fundraising event at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel where Althea was seated at our table. I was about 10 or 11 years old and didn't really know about her career and accomplishments (my Mom filled me in on those later) but I remember having a very nice conversation with Ms. Gibson for at least 30 minutes. I don't recall what we spoke about, but she was very open and relaxed. I don't have my little autograph book any more, but she graciously signed it and I can remember thinking what a cool signature she had, very much befitting the legend that she was.
