I want to build a place where my son can meet his great-grandparents. My grandmother Marian Joyce (Benning) Kroetch always wanted to meet her great-grandchildren, but she died just a handful of years before my son's birth.
So while she didn't have the opportunity to meet him, at least he will be able to know her.

My father's side is full blood Sicilian and my mother's side is a combination of Welsh, Scottish, German and a few other European cultures. One of my more colorful (ahem black sheep) family members came over on the Mayflower. He was among the first to be hanged in the New World for a criminal offense he made while onboard the ship.

Ethel M Bishop of Dallas, Dallas County, TX was born on June 4, 1900, and died at age 105 years old on March 26, 2006.

BIRTH
Mary Jane Morris was born about 1846 per calculation from her age on a ship manifest. Her mother was Mary Ann Morris (misspelled Maurice) according to a ship manifest. The name of her father was uncertain as of 2022. Samuel Morris was reportedly living with Alexander, probably her brother, in 1860, and he was likely her father.
IMMIGRATION
Mary Jane immigrated with her mother to the USA according to the ship manifest. The boy with her, Alexander, was probably her brother. They arrived in Philadelphia in 1851.
RESIDENCE IN THE USA
Mary Jane Morris was calculated to have either married before 1860 or have taken a servant position in a household before 1860. Her name was not in Census 1860 with her brother.

BIRTH AND PARENTS
Mary Ann [unknown maiden name as of 2022] was born about 1819 in what is now Northern Ireland. Her father and mother were unknown as of 2022. A Hugh Rogan was listed before her on the ship manifest. No relationship was discovered as of 2022. She was not a daughter of Patrick Rogan. That Mary Ann married a Mr Rooney.
MARRIAGE
It was calculated in 2022 that Mary Ann and her probable husband, Samuel Morris, married, about 1843. Their son, Alexander, was born about 1844.
IMMIGRATION
In 1851 Mary Ann emigrated to Philadelphia. Her surname, likely her married name, was recorded: Maurice.
FAMILY
Mary Ann had with her two children. There was a boy, Alexander, born in 1844, and a daughter, Mary Jane, born in 1845. The year the family emigrated was in 1851.
RESIDENCE IN USA
Mary Ann Morris probably died somewhere in the USA before 1860, because she was not reported in Census 1860.

VERSION #1:
BIRTH
A Samuel Morris was born about 1808 in Ireland according to the US Census of Wisconsin in 1860.
MARRIAGE AND FAMILY
It was calculated in 2020 that Samuel Morris married Mary Ann [unknown maiden name as of 2022]. Her married name was on an 1851 ship manifest that described a family: Mary Ann Maurice (probably variant of Morris) and son, Alexander, and daughter Mary J(ane).
IMMIGRATION
Samuel Morris' name was not on the same ship manifest in any variant in 1851. He probably left Ireland before or after his wife's and children's emigration in 1851.
RESIDENCE
A Samuel Morris (age 52) resided with an Alexander (age 16) in Wisconsin in 1860 according to the Census that year.
DEATH
Samuel Morris's wife probably died before 1860, because she was not reported in Census 1860. Samuel Morris's daughter, Mary Jane, age 14 in 1860, may have married or begun employment as a servant somewhere in the USA.
A different Samuel Morris died in 1891 in Wisconsin in a county (Grant), 66 miles away from the county (Dane) that was reported for this Samuel Morris in Wisconsin in US Census 1860.
This Samuel Morris may have died about 1861 in Dane County, Wisconsin. Alex may have independently moved to Michigan shortly after that time.
BURIAL
The burial site of Samuel Morris was unknown as of 2022. Of thousands of photos of gravestones in Grant and Dane Counties at the USGenWebArchivesProject, a single gravestone inscribed "Moris" was the only one that could be of Samuel Morris. It was located in Springdale Township of Dane County in the Mt Vernon Cemetery.
VERSION #2:
RESIDENCE
Census 1860 reported that this man, Samuel Morris, and an adolescent, probably his son, Alex, lived together. State of Residence: Wisconsin. By 1862 a Samuel Morris, perhaps this man, had moved to Indiana and enlisted in the Indiana Infantry.
PENSION
#1 Pension Application (1865) reported that a Samuel Morris was an Invalid (which often meant a Veteran). State of Application: Indiana.
#2 Pension Application (1914) reported that Widow, Mary (Ann?), of a Samuel Morris filed (likely shortly after she moved from Indiana to Illinois) for Pension for her husband's Military Service. State of Application: Illinois.
RED FLAG: Usually a wife applied for a husband's pension shortly after his death. If so in this case, then the Samuel Morris born in 1808 was not related to Widow Mary.
#3 Pension Application (1915) reported that Guardian, Mary (Jane?), of a Samuel Morris filed (likely shortly after her mother's death) for Pension on behalf of Minor (her orphaned nephew). State of Application: Illinois.
SUMMARY
If the previously described documents apply to one Samuel Morris, and if the relationships were accurate, then Samuel Morris was the husband of Mary Ann and the father of Alexander and of Mary Jane.

In 2022 it was suspected that Alexander was born to Samuel Morris and his wife, Mary Ann, in Belfast, Ireland.
